Here's the idea so far: May of 2008 we will convene at the Pier in front of the ferry docks, and take an afternoon ferry to Alcatraz Island.   The cost of the ferry is about $20. The island itself is free. So bring a light picnic lunch if you want, as there isn't much to eat there. (There's a bird sanctuary on the island, but I think the rangers would look down on us hunting our own meal). After Alcatraz, which should take us about 2-3 hours, we will most likely head back to the Pier. There is plenty to see there as well.
